Before opening Michael’s Menswear in 1983, Michael Konvalin worked in accounting, where dressing up was simply a part of the job. Over the years, as his wardrobe grew, his knowledge of menswear also expanded. When he was faced with a move to Pennsylvania for a new position, he made the decision to instead stay in the Black Hills and use his experience with men’s clothing to benefit other men in the Black Hills region, and Michael’s Men’s Wear was born.
Michael’s Menswear first opened on St. Joseph St. in historic downtown Rapid City, and after 5 years of business, moved two doors down to its present location at 617 St. Joseph St. Over the years, it has become a prominent fixture of the city’s downtown, adding to the locally owned shopping establishments that are available to those visiting the area.
In 1983, Michael Konvalin opened Michael’s Menswear after observing a need for quality menswear in the Black Hills. Today he continues to fill that need by providing outstanding service and a vast selection of men’s clothing from leading brands.
